The Dybbuk
Tel Aviv University (TAU) Theater
As the greatest play in Jewish theater history, “The Dybbuk” written by S. Anski in 1920 based on tales and myths from Jewish folklore, is now more relevant than ever. In the age of social justice and feminism, this new and current adaptation bears the question – what is the price that must be paid to make one’s voice be heard? The performance captures the forbidden, passionate love story between orphan Yeshiva student, Hanan, and the daughter of a wealthy merchant, Leah, two wandering souls in a confounding world, fighting to tear down the walls between the old world and the new.
