    Ivan Uryvskyi

Ivan Uryvskyi is a Ukrainian theatre director, Honoured Artist of Ukraine (2020) and laureate of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize (2024) for his production of “The Witch of Konotop.” He was born on 9 March 1990 in Kryvyi Rih and studied at the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts (Nina Husakova’s workshop). Since 2 November 2020, Uryvskyi has been a resident director at the Ivan Franko National Academic Drama Theatre. Prior to that, he served as chief director of the Odesa Academic Ukrainian Music and Drama Theatre named after V. Vasylko. He is best known for his innovative stagings of Ukrainian classics (“Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors,” “The Witch of Konotop”) as well as contemporary adaptations of Western European literature (“Caligula,” “Macbeth”). His productions are distinguished by minimalist sets, technologically sophisticated scenography, and profound symbolism — often complemented by poetic costumes and modern artistic techniques.
