Zuzana Demjanová
Zuzana Demjanová is a Slovak literary translator specialising in German-language fiction and one of the most distinctive voices of the contemporary Slovak translation scene. She translates acclaimed contemporary prose as well as experimental writing into Slovak (and occasionally Czech), known for her sensitivity to language, rhythm and meaning.
Her work explores themes of identity, family, social tension and the intimate inner lives of characters. She is known, for example, for her translation of the award-winning novel Blood Book by Kim de l’Horizon and other titles that showcase her ability to handle linguistically complex texts and her precise sense of style.
Critics describe her as a translator who can “bend the language without breaking its soul,” bringing Slovak readers literature that dares to sting — and to soothe.
