Péter Esterházy
Péter Esterházy (1950–2016) was a Hungarian writer, playwright and essayist, widely regarded as one of the most important figures of modern Central European literature. He came from the historic aristocratic Esterházy family, whose complex history often appeared in his literary work. Although he studied mathematics at university in Budapest, he soon devoted himself fully to writing.
His works are known for their playful structure, irony and linguistic inventiveness. Esterházy often blended history, personal narrative and fiction, creating texts that function both as literary experiments and as reflections on European history. Among his best-known books are Harmonia Caelestis and One Woman. Péter Esterházy is considered one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Hungarian literature.
