Vladimír Obšil
Vladimír Obšil (1957–2023) was a Slovak theatre, film and television actor and a long-time member of the Drama Company of the Slovak National Theatre. He was born in Prachatice in the Czech Republic and studied acting at the Academy of Performing Arts (VŠMU) in Bratislava, graduating in 1981. While still a student he appeared on the stage of the Slovak National Theatre in the production Belasé kone na červenej tráve, and after graduation he became a permanent member of the ensemble, remaining closely connected with the theatre for most of his career.
At the Slovak National Theatre he created many memorable roles in both classical and contemporary productions. Audiences could see him in plays such as A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Miser, Caligula or Portugal. Critics appreciated his natural acting style, sensitivity for character roles and his ability to bring subtle irony and humanity to his characters.
Alongside theatre, he also appeared in films, television series and radio dramas.
