Theatre of Dramaturgs

The Theatre of Playwrights in Kyiv, founded in 2020 by twenty Ukrainian authors, has become a unique phenomenon in the country’s cultural landscape. Its mission is to develop contemporary Ukrainian drama and reflect the most pressing issues of society. The repertoire focuses on new Ukrainian plays, giving voice to stories written “here and now” that respond to war, social challenges, and personal experiences. The theatre is distinguished by its experimental approach. Unconventional staging, innovative directing methods, and modern techniques make every performance one of a kind. Playwrights themselves are often directly involved in the creative process, adding authenticity and immediacy to the productions. The Theatre is also active beyond its own stage, regularly participating in festivals in Ukraine and abroad. By showcasing contemporary Ukrainian drama to international audiences, it promotes Ukrainian culture globally and shapes the image of Ukrainian theatre as bold, innovative, and deeply relevant.
