Bird in the Attic
Maria Zankovetska National Drama Theater
The one-woman play "Bird in the Attic" is a poignant confession of a 13-year-old girl from Mariupol who was separated from her mother during filtration. Her only connection to the outside world is through the videos she records from the attic of a stranger’s home. The production explores one of the most painful topics of the war — the fate of Ukrainian children who have been forcibly removed from occupied territories. Hundreds of thousands of minors are considered missing. But these are not just numbers — they are lives, they are the future of Ukraine. The play was created as part of the international project TAW (Theatre and War), which brings together Ukrainian, Finnish, and German artists. The initiative supports the development of contemporary Ukrainian drama during wartime and is funded by the European Education and Culture Executive Agency. The script was developed with the support of Prague City Theatres.
