Петр Нарожний

Petr Nárožný is a Czech actor, presenter, comedian, and entertainer, and one of the true legends of Czech theatre and film. He graduated from the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague, but his original profession as a civil engineer did not fulfil him – he soon found his true calling in acting. Until 1980 he was a member of the legendary Semafor Theatre, after which he joined the Činoherní klub (Drama Club), where he performed for more than four decades. He shone, for example, as Wilhelm Voigt in The Captain of Köpenick, as well as in productions like Mask and Face and The Gamblers by Ladislav Smoček. For his role as knight Oliver Urban in Miroslav Krleža’s Leda (A Married-Unmarried Story) he received the Divadelní noviny Award 2010 and was nominated for the Thalia Award. In 2011 he was also honoured with the Award for Creative Contribution to Children’s and Youth Film at the Zlín Film Festival. Audiences love him from iconic films and television: comedies such as Jáchyme, hoď ho do stroje! (Joachim, Put Him into the Machine), Marečku, podejte mi pero! (Mareček, Pass Me the Pen!), or the fairy tale Give the Devil His Due (S čerty nejsou žerty) have become Czech classics. He was also a star of the TV series Hospoda (The Pub), and generations of children know his voice from the beloved cartoon Mach and Šebestová. Colleagues describe him as a consummate professional with exceptional comedic talent and perfect timing.
