
Ян Антонін Пітінський
A poet, writer, playwright, and theatre director. He has been awarded the Alfréd Radok Award multiple times for his work, and in October 2007, he received the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic Award. After graduating from grammar school and a secondary school for librarians, he held several different jobs. He co-founded the Brno-based theatre companies Nepojízdná housenka and Ochotnický kroužek, where he drew critical attention by directing Kafka's Amerika as well as his own plays Ananas (Pineapple) and Matka (Mother). In 1991, he co-created Kabinet múz, directing several productions there (including Tutugari, Sňatek, Blázen jsem ve své vsi, Máj, and Silná v zoologii). Among his prominent directorial works are Tanya, Tanya, Ritter, Dene, Voss, and The Theater Maker (Divadelník) at Prague's Divadlo Na zábradlí; Eight and a Half (and a Half), Jenůfa (Její pastorkyňa), The Trial (Proces), Dialogues of the Carmelites, and The Death of Hippodamia at the Municipal Theatre Zlín; Job and Oedipus Rex at HaDivadlo in Brno; Sister Anxiety (Sestra Úzkost) and Elective Affinities (Spřízněné volbou) at the Dejvické divadlo in Prague; The Magic Mountain (Kouzelný vrch) at Divadlo v Dlouhé; the opera Dido and Aeneas at the J. K.
