Jiří Hájíček
Jiří Hájíček is one of the most successful contemporary Czech writers and a recipient of the prestigious Magnesia Litera awards. He was born in 1967 in České Budějovice, and his work is deeply intertwined with the South Bohemian countryside. He is renowned as an author of novels that capture human destinies against the backdrop of historical and social change. His most significant works include Selský baroko (Magnesia Litera for Prose), Rybí krev (Magnesia Litera Book of the Year), and Dešťová hůl (Lidové noviny Book of the Year). His novel Zloději zelených koní received a feature film adaptation, and the highly successful Rybí krev was adapted into a stage production by the South Bohemian Theatre in 2019, followed later by Selský baroko.
