Ladislav Fuks
Ladislav Fuks (1923–1994) was one of the most prominent Czech writers of the 20th century, a master of psychological prose, dark humor, and the grotesque. He studied philosophy and psychology, which deeply influenced his work, full of hidden symbols, anxiety, and a fascination with the mysterious. He became world-famous for his novels dealing with the Holocaust and human vulnerability to evil. Among his best-known works are The Cremator (Spalovač mrtvol), Mr. Theodore Mundstock (Pan Theodor Mundstock), The Mice of Natalia Mooshabr (Myši Natálie Mooshabrové), and Mí černovlasí bratři. Although he did not write theatrical texts himself, his brilliant stories possess an immense dramatic power and regularly come to life in successful productions on leading Czech stages.
