Jaroslav Žák (1906–1960) was a legendary Czech writer, humorist, screenwriter, and educator. He transformed his profession as a high school teacher into immortal literary inspiration. He became renowned as the author of cult humorous novels set in the school environment, which describe the eternal battle between the faculty and the students with gentle satire. His most famous works include Študáci a kantoři and Cesta do hlubin študákovy duše. Both books received famous film adaptations and remain immensely popular material for stage adaptations on many Czech stages to this day (such as Škola základ života at the Petr Bezruč Theatre, the Horácké Theatre, or the Brno City Theatre).
