Henrik Ibsen was a Norwegian playwright, poet, and writer, often referred to as the most significant Norwegian literary figure of all time and the father of modern drama. Considering the era in which he lived (1828–1906), his plays were remarkably bold and remain popular worldwide today due to their timeless relevance. Henrik Ibsen was not afraid to address taboo subjects, such as women's emancipation, the hypocrisy of social conventions, venereal diseases, and euthanasia. Many of his characters represent great challenges for actors and are considered "dream roles." His most acclaimed works include the dramas Peer Gynt, Hedda Gabler, A Doll's House, and The Wild Duck.
