Ihor Bilyts

Ihor Bilyts is a Ukrainian director, actor, playwright, and teacher. Born in Kyiv, he graduated in 2012 from the Kyiv National University of Theatre, Cinema and Television named after I. K. Karpenko-Karyi with a degree in drama directing. In the same year, he founded the Bilyts Art Centre, which functions both as a school and a theatre. He began his career as an actor at the Kyiv Chamber Theatre-Studio “Strange Castle,” and later gained recognition for his productions at the Lesia Ukrainka Theatre in Lviv, including “LPS,” “Bozhenka,” and “My Relatives and Other Scoundrels.” As a playwright, Bilytskyi debuted in 2017 with the play “Hey-parade,” which won the “Week of Contemporary Play” competition, while his other texts have repeatedly been shortlisted for national drama awards. He also writes for children, such as the play “Ninja Hedgehog.” In 2022, he started working with the Maria Zankovetska National Theatre in Lviv, where he staged “Buna” and “Kassandra,” and in August 2025 he was appointed the theatre’s chief director. His productions are known for their contemporary language, social relevance, and bold theatrical experimentation.
