Rostislav Marek

Rostislav Marek is a prominent figure of Czech theatre and a long-standing pillar of the Zlín Municipal Theatre, where he has been a permanent ensemble member since 1984. After graduating from JAMU, he joined the former Workers’ Theatre in Gottwaldov and made his stage debut as Gustav in the comedy Těžká Barbora. Since then, he has created more than 150 roles and become one of the most distinctive faces of the Zlín ensemble. Audiences remember him for unforgettable performances such as Iago (Othello), the Master (The Master and Margarita), King Arthur (Merlin), Harpagon (The Miser – Aplaus Award) or The Double Bass Player (The Double Bass), with which he represented the Czech Republic at the international WROSTJA solo theatre festival in Wrocław. Among his more recent roles are Jan Antonín Baťa (I, Baťa), Onassis (Master Class), as well as appearances in the satirical cabarets Ovčáček čtveráček, Ovčáček miláček and Jednou budem dál. In addition to acting, he is active in dubbing (including Superman), teaching, and collaborates with the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic and the Tomáš Baťa Foundation. Critics describe him as “an actor of exceptional stage authority and charisma that deepens with every role.”
