A black-and-white play about love, based on Boris Vian’s cult surrealist novel, set to the sensual songs of Lely45.

Colin is a carefree, wealthy young man whose only dream is to fall in love. Chloe is a young woman who embodies purity and romance. When they meet, everything happens quickly: falling in love, a first date, a wedding and dreams of a life together. But their happiness is short-lived — Chloe falls ill when a water lily begins to grow in her lungs.

Foam of the Days is an unusual production for the Wild Theatre. Lyrical and visually beautiful, with no violence, profanity or gunshots, it explores love, mortality and our relationship with ourselves. According to theatre director Yaroslava Kravchenko, it is the first production in the company’s repertoire to focus less on a person’s responsibility within society and more on their understanding of themselves.

The production combines a surreal fairy tale, an existential drama and social satire. It explores the fragility of human life and our vulnerability in the face of a cruel world. Wealth, status and social institutions are transient — only love and fidelity remain, even when they are destined to lose.

The final stage performance of Foam of the Days took place in November 2025. It is now available to watch only as a recording.
